I have been living in Helsinki, Finland for the past 20 years and when I am not behind a camera, i am in front of it or in front of an audience, and sometimes, the audience is made up of cats, and I am ok with that.
I go by the name of bambu, much easier than my full name : Xavier Locquet Vandenberghe.

I became professional photographer in 2008, but I had been shooting since i was in University. I started working for Helsinki Pride, Faces Festival, shooting people in their favorite element. While i continue to shoot for festivals and events (Samba Carnival, Zombie walk, RopeCon and Natural high healing festival) I also ventured into Weddings and graduations pictures. I am covering private events too. Obviously with my own experience as a performer, dance, theatre and circus performances are on my priority list.
Outside of events, I also do portraits shooting, either for little group or couples, for example for the book: Shanti Limnell’s tantra book, and for individuals, often artists themselves looking for collaboration and images not necessarily traditional.
Finally i also have my own projects, such as Light Clothing.

Moving Pictures
Like many other photographers, I was asked if I could make videos. And so I started with a short video, directed by Celso de la Molina : The Glance. I went on to work with the same team members in several other projects, a music video and a Short movie in Competition for Uneton48 2016 “IlleGal Alien” (we won best punk movie). I still do short movies and trailers for upcoming event or performances. I also do interviews to promote upcoming events (Afro jazz club, Catalysti association, TanssiTeatteri Pinta) and finally I do full multicameras capture of events (TanssiARTesaani, FlowWowProductions, Catalysti ). I recently acquired a drone and footage can be seen in several of my latest work.

Streaming Pictures
2020 have brought a brutal alt to every events all around the globe, as well as Helsinki. Since my main subject is related to people gathering … this has been a bit of a problem. I was first called to help with the streaming of Helsinki pride online show in the summer 2020 and this did not go smoothly. A year later, in the spring 2021, after a big investment in dedicated equipment and time to learn … Rosebud, a project by TanssiARTesaani was successfully streamed several times.
